Below is a sample schedule for a 2 Day Summer session of Parent & Family Orientation (Slight adjustments may occur but those would not impact start and end times of the overall session). Final schedules will be distributed at orientation check-in. These sessions take place in late May, June, and July (for Summer and/or Fall classes) and are only open to first-year students and their families.

Day 1

Receive your materials, name tag, and information for the day. (New UA students must be registered in advance for Bama Bound.)

8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Meet the Orientation Staff and University Leadership who will assist you throughout your orientation experience.

 Crucial Conversations *

9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Your student has not yet left the nest. A staff member from Parent & Family Programs will help you navigate some of the important family conversations to have in preparation for your student’s transition to UA.

Capstone Connections Info Fair and Breakout sessions

10:00 – 12:00 p.m. Student Center, 2nd floor
Visit with campus partners or choose from breakout sessions to learn more about specific opportunities, organizations, and resources that will enhance your student’s college experience.

Lunch/Avanti presentations*

Noon – 1:30 p.m.

Parents & Family members will enjoy lunch in the Student Center Food Court followed by a presentation from our Avanti Orientation leaders or attend the presentation first then enjoy lunch.

Academic Essentials *

1:30 – 1:55 p.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Students can sometimes struggle to transition from high school academics to college academics. Get some tips on resources that will help support your student’s academic success.

Housing and Residential Communities*

1:55 – 2:20 p.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Housing and Residential Communities will present tips to help you prepare your student to make UA their home away from home.

College Visit

2:45 p.m. Various Locations
During this session, you will learn of opportunities within your student’s academic area and begin conversations about your student’s class schedule.

Take Care of Business

After College Visit Various Locations
Visit Financial Aid, Office of Disability Services, Veteran and Military Affairs, etc.

Check-in to Residence Halls (if staying on campus)

4 – 6:00 p.m. Ridgecrest West/South Residence Hall
You and your student can check-in to Ridgecrest if you haven’t already done so. Please see housing for orientation site for more details. 

Dinner (option one)

5 – 6:30 p.m. Lakeside Dining
Enjoy dinner with your student. If you need food accommodations, a Bama Dining staff member will be available to assist you. Dinner is provided in your parent & family orientation fee.

Dinner (option two)*

5:30 – 8:00 p.m. Central Mesa: 519 Greensboro Ave, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401
Want to visit and mingle with other parents? Join other parents and family members at Central Mesa while your student is enjoying their orientation night event. Wear your parent & family orientation nametag, this will allow you to spot other parents. Dinner is pay on your own and 10% will be given to the Student Life Support Fund, which supports students.

Learn specifics on what immunizations and health records your student needs to begin their time at UA.

Supporting Student Safety & Wellness on Campus Panel *

Listen and learn from a panel of UA’s safety, emergency preparedness, and health and wellness personnel as they discuss resources, services, and programming for all UA students.

Bryant Museum Visit*

11:00 a.m. Bryant Museum next to Moody Music Hall
The Division of Student Life invites you to visit for free the Bryant Museum to learn more about UA’s traditions as you wait for your student to finish registering for classes. Some proceeds from the Museum store will be given to the Division of Student Life Capstone Fund, which supports students.
