Below is the schedule for a 2 Day session of 2022 Parent & Family Orientation (Slight adjustments may occur but those would not impact start and end times of the overall session.). Final schedules will be distributed at orientation check-in.

Day 1

8:00 – 9:00 a.m. The University of Alabama Student Center, 2nd floor
Receive your materials, name tag, and information for the day. (New UA students must be registered in advance for Bama Bound.)

Capstone Connections Info Fair

8:00 – 9:30 a.m. Student Center, 2nd floor
Visit with campus partners to learn more about specific opportunities, organizations, and resources that will enhance your student’s college experience.

Specific Student Population Meetings

8:30 – 9:15 a.m. Student Center, 3rd floor
Sessions will be offered by Veteran and Military Affairs, Honors College, and Crimson Edge for the students/families affiliated with those programs.

9:30 – 10:05 a.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Meet the Orientation Staff who will assist you throughout your orientation experience.

Dismissal of Students – At this time, students are dismissed to attend student-only sessions. Parents and family members will rejoin students for the afternoon’s College Visit and dinner.

Academic Essentials *

10:15 – 10:40 a.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Students can sometimes struggle to transition from high school academics to college academics. Get some tips on resources that will help support your student’s academic success.

Transition to Life on Campus *

10:40 – 11:10 a.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Housing and Residential Communities will present tips to help you prepare your student to make UA their home away from home.

Way to Pay at UA *

11:10 – 11:25 a.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Learn from Student Account Services representatives about the process and options for payment at UA.

Financial Aid at UA *

11:25 – 11:40 a.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Learn from Student Financial Aid representatives about the logistics of financial aid disbursement and more.

Parent Ambassador Small Group/Lunch *

11:55 a.m. – 1:10 p.m. Various Locations
Depending on your student’s college, Parent Ambassadors will provide an opportunity to get to know one another and learn about student involvement on campus through a small group presentation followed by lunch at the Student Center Food Court OR Parent Ambassadors will guide you to lunch followed by a Parent Ambassador Small Group. (Lunch is included in your Parent & Family Orientation fee.)

Crucial Conversations *

1:15 – 1:45 p.m. Student Center Ballroom, 3rd floor
Your student has not yet left the nest. A staff member from Parent & Family Programs will help you navigate some of the important family conversations to have in preparation for your student’s transition to UA.

College Visit

2 p.m. Various Locations
During this session, you will learn of opportunities within your student’s academic area and begin conversations about your student’s class schedule.

Take Care of Business

After College Visit Various Locations
Visit Financial Aid, Office of Disability Services, Veteran and Military Affairs, etc. and/or check your student into their residence hall.

Affinity Group Connections

4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Various Locations
Learn more about Affinity Groups for UA families and connect with other UA families and their students who are also interested in participating in Affinity Groups.


5 – 6:30 p.m. Lakeside Dining
Enjoy dinner with your student. If you need food accommodations, a Bama Dining staff member will be available to assist you.
