What you need to know

Review your tentative schedule. Be sure to double-check session dates with your student.
For students and parents/family members who are staying on campus during your orientation experience (excludes August sessions) please review specifics on checking-in and out of Ridgecrest Residence Hall.
Orientation Check-In opens at 8 a.m. on the second floor of The University of Alabama Student Center. Please view the UA campus map and click on 2024 Bama Bound Routes (will be live in May) for a detailed map that is specific to 2024 Bama Bound. Be sure to click on the box that gives you a check mark in the box. View this page for a maps and turn by turn directions for parking and avoiding construction.
Students who attend a one-day session will register for classes between 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. on the day of orientation. Please be sure your travel plans accommodate your student’s registration time.

Preparing for Orientation

To prepare for your orientation, you should do the following.

Review the Bama Bound information that has been emailed to your student’s Crimson email account with them.
Have your student’s MMR and Meningitis Immunization and TB Test Verification forms prepared by your family doctor. Visit Student Health Center for more information. All forms must be submitted electronically through your student’s myBama account at mybama.ua.edu, recommended prior to Bama Bound but no later than August 1.
Your student must submit their Action Card photo found on myBama, and then add their mobile Action Card to their mobile device before Bama Bound, as they will use their ACT Card for their meals during orientation. For more information, visit actcard.ua.edu.
Encourage your transfer student to complete their math assessment and foreign language placement exam at least 1 week prior to attending Bama Bound if they have not previously earned math or foreign language credit. Summer Term 1 students are encouraged to take the exams.
Encourage your student to prepare for their Bama Bound advising session by doing the following:
- Check out DegreeWorks, UA’s academic planning tool, in their myBama. DegreeWorks is where your student will formulate their academic degree plan that shows which courses should be taken each semester until all degree requirements have been completed.
- Exploring the course options available to your student prior to their orientation session could improve their academic advising experience. Your student may use their myBama account to browse the summer and fall course offerings and begin organizing their ideas for conversations with their advisor. Please note: Additional sections of courses are made available for all Bama Bound sessions. Bama Bound students will meet with their academic advisor to determine a course schedule and register for courses during orientation. Your student will register for courses at orientation before leaving campus.
- If your student wants to change their major, they may declare a new major by logging into myBama, clicking the Admissions & Scholarships tab, and clicking Change My Application Major in the Undergraduate Admissions block.
If your student is interested in purchasing football tickets (beginning in early June), they may do so through their myBama portal at mybama.ua.edu.

What to Bring

A sweater/jacket/sweatshirt! It is very chilly in the Student Center, where you will spend the majority of your orientation experience.
Comfortable walking shoes
A refillable water bottle
Umbrella or raincoat (in case of rain showers)
A pen – a bag and a guide will be provided
Your student will also need the following:
- Their Campus Wide Identification Number (CWID)
- Photo identification (driver’s license, military ID, etc.)
- Technology (laptops work better than tablets)
- Most current transcripts, including any courses in which they are currently enrolled
- Any special Admissions documents (including test scores and transcripts from other colleges)
- Pen and Paper
- See housing what to bring if staying overnight on campus

Should you need vehicle assistance during Parent & Family Orientation, please contact Parent & Family Programs via email at parents@ua.edu once you have completed your registration.

Interpreter/Translator Needs

Should you require an interpreter (ASL, Spanish, etc.) to attend orientation with you, you will not be charged the orientation fee for that person. You are welcome to bring your interpreter/translator with you. Please contact Parent & Family Programs via email at parents@ua.edu to let us know so that we can prepare a nametag for your interpreter/translator.

Diet Related Requests

Bama Dining staff will be available at the Student Center food court and the dining halls should you have any questions or need assistance. If you would like to have a conversation in advance of your session, you can contact Holly Grof, Bama Dining’s RDN, at 205-348-2981 or via email at hagrof@ua.edu.

Capstone Creed

Your student is expected to uphold The University of Alabama Code of Student Conduct. This means that, should their behavior include anything that violates the Code of Student Conduct (consuming alcohol or drugs, using a fake i.d., harming others, etc.) and UA is notified, they will be held accountable through the Office of Student Conduct. Attending a conduct hearing before you attend your first class at UA is less than ideal. Encourage your student to know the Code of Student Conduct to be familiar with the university’s expectations.
